DOBAG RUGS: RETURNING TO THE ROOTS OF VEGETABLE DYES

Dear Oriental Rug Lovers,
Join us Saturday, May 9th, at 7:00 PM for our exciting Turkish travelogue and new exhibit, DOBAG Rugs: Returning to the Roots of Vegetable Dyes. Paul and Eileen Jorgensen will share their recent reunion with the women of the DOBAG Rug Weaving Cooperatives in Turkey. Journey with them from Istanbul through the Yuruk mountain villages and experience these master weavers creating magnificent rugs using hand-carded, hand-spun, and vegetable dyed wool. In 1982, the DOBAG project revitalized the ancient rug weaving traditions, sharing its knowledge with rug producers throughout the world which transformed modern rug production. DOBAG rugs are prized works of art, and are displayed in museums worldwide. Our new exhibit will feature over 50 of these vibrant, durable and glorious "antiques of the future" as well as an extraordinary collection of semi-antique Kurdish tribal carpets and trappings. The Jorgensens also traveled to India and brought back an amazing collection of statues and ethnic artifacts. We look forward to exploring the wonderful art and culture of Magic Carpets with you!
