A Family Woven Business
Jorgensen's Magic Carpet Gallery
For Paul and Eileen Jorgensen, their passion and love of this fine art form has been their inspiration over the years. They began with a trip to India, where they were deeply impressed with the tradition and beauty of Oriental rugs. Soon they were presenting home shows throughout Northern California, and eventually The Magic Carpet was born. Paul went on to become an ORRA (Oriental Rug Retailers Association) certified appraiser and has been using this knowledge to help develop The Magic Carpet's unique collection of rugs.
The Magic Carpet truly became a family woven business when their son, Joshua Horniak, joined the business, adding his enthusiasm and deep appreciation to this ancient art form. Josh has become highly proficient at Oriental rug washing and restoration and has developed a thorough knowledge of the different aspects of The Magic Carpet. He has also utilized his studies in computer programming and Information Technology to design and implement our web site.
The Jorgensen family believes that one's appreciation for rugs can be greatly enhanced through the study and understanding of the rich tradition behind them. To further this ideal, The Magic Carpet offers lectures and exhibits twice a year, featuring different aspects of the rug-weaving world.

THE MAGIC CARPET CONTINUES!
Dear Nevada County Community and Friends World-Wide,
While planning for our retirement, we began a conversation with two of our friends and rug lovers who like many customers expressed their desire to see the Magic Carpet, a landmark of Nevada County, somehow continue. That conversation grew into a plan, and now it's a reality!
With great excitement and joy, we'd like to announce the re-opening of The Magic Carpet under the capable management of Peter Cohen and Carolien van Straten on February 15, 2013.
We will continue to support the shop's success as buyers, appraisers, and consultants, traveling the world and sending back beautiful hand-knotted rugs and ethnic artifacts for our distinctive customers.
Peter and Carolien will bring their enthusiasm and expert guidance to customers at the store and they invite you to stop by and say hello.
We would like to express heartfelt gratitude for all the wonderful support received and delightful friendships enjoyed during our long journey as owners of the Magic Carpet in Nevada City for the past 33 years.
Blessings,
Paul and Eileen Jorgensen
